Before coming to painting I worked as a fashion print designer, which informs my practice, in particular my obsession with drawing and colour.
I work in a variety of media exploring representation, abstraction colour, and stitch in response to the ordinary, finding beauty in the everyday and overlooked. By building up a dictionary of motifs I aim to create my own visual language, using a juxtaposition of imagery and sources I create a sense of anarchy and play within my work.
Last summer I began keeping a sketchbook recording London scenes exploring the idea of beauty in the overlooked views of our ever-changing city, painting the rapidly changing skyline looking at the juxtaposition of this new cityscape overshadowing the traditional terraces and homes of Londoners. Using oils I have employing a traditional painterly approach encouraging the viewer to stop and reflect and see their day to day surroundings in a new and optimistic way in these uncertain times.
